Happy New Year!
It’s been a wonderful start to 2014. On the 1st, I attended the Poetry Project’s Annual New Year’s Day Marathon Reading at St. Mark’s church with some friends and especially enjoyed Don Yorty’s poems with harmonica, Marissa Perel’s ethereal musings with distorted guitar, Jennifer Bartlett’s incredibly moving poem, and Edwin Torres’ experiments with the sounds of language. It was also a great privilege to see Phillip Glass perform (the entire room seemed to be carried away as the vibrations of his piano playing transformed the space into an ocean of mesmerizing sound). Then, Jeff Lewis’ art night was a very chill and inspiring way to end our day.
On the 2nd, it was fun to get snowed in when we had some old friends visiting from Portugal. We ate heartily, shared music, reminisced about our days shared living in Paris, and made merry good cheer. It’s so important to nurture time for good cheer and creativity, and I wish everyone lots of good energy going forward into the new year!
My New Year’s resolution boils down to one word:
A Very Happy New Year to All!
